Solana
Beach is a warm and friendly city, tucked
between Encinitas and Del Mar in San Diego’s
North County. With the Pacific Ocean as its
western border, it offers its own popular
and easily accessible beach. To the east,
lies the Lomas Santa Fe Golf Course and Country
Club, to the north, Lagoon Regional Park and
to the South, the famous Del Mar Racetrack.
Boutiques, casual and elegant restaurants,
surf shops and service businesses dot the
Pacific Coast Highway as it makes its way
through this one-of-a-kind area. Solana Beach
offers an eclectic mix of housing; there are
oceanfront homes in the multi-million dollar
range, townhouses and condominiums bordering
the golf course and other condos offering
stunning ocean views on the coast.
The
area's master plan, developed during the 1920's,
called for the integration of the civil infrastructure
and the environment. Graceful eucalyptus and
acacia-lined streets emanate from the charming
central village where residents enjoy superb
shops, fine restaurants and cafes and services
that make living here a true delight. Solana
Beach has different areas, each with its own
special character.
The
Sierra Avenue bluffs area runs along the ocean
and extends from San Elijo on the north to
Del Mar River on the south. Some small apartment
and condominium projects complete the eclectic
housing mix.
Public access to the beach is available by
way of stairs in 3 different locations. There
are boutiques, casual restaurants, surf shops,
and service businesses dot the coast highway.
North County’s premier night spot, the
legendary Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach
has had a long history of bringing great live
music to the San Diego area.
The
highlands of Solana Beach offer great views
of the ocean and or back country and are west
of the 5 freeway. Originally a major portion
of the heights was named "La Colonia".
This was changed to Eden Gardens in 1929 by
a developer who thought the new name would
attract more settlers by evoking an image
of the biblical paradise. The area is bisected
by Stevens and Nardo.
The
Lomas Santa Fe area is east of the 5 freeway.
This master planned community has over 2,000
dwelling units, two major shopping centers,
an 18-hole championship golf course and country
club, and an executive golf course.
The
San Elijo Lagoon is a coastal wetland located
just north of Solana Beach. The watershed
draining into the lagoon encompasses 77 square
miles, with two main tributaries; Escondido
Creek and La Orilla Creek. Steep bluffs border
the lagoon basin and lower reaches of Escondido
Creek. This beautiful area area runs along
the ocean and estuary of Solana Beach. There
are many custom homes and considerable variation
in properties in this area.
The
school district here is one of the most highly
ranked throughout the county, and the recently
built public library is state of the art.
Exceptional schools, superior golf courses
and breathtaking homes complete this idyllic
area. Below are
links to the area's schools.
